Paediatric Musculoskeletal (MSK) Conditions
At Mini Wonders, we provide specialist paediatric physiotherapy for children and young people with a wide range of musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions and injuries. Children’s bodies are constantly growing and developing, which means MSK conditions can present very differently to those seen in adults. Our experienced physiotherapists understand the unique challenges associated with growing bones, joints, muscles, and tendons, and provide individualised treatment plans tailored to each child’s age, stage of development, activity level, and goals.
Whether your child is recovering from surgery, managing a sports injury, experiencing growth-related pain, or struggling with mobility and movement difficulties, our aim is to reduce pain, restore function, improve strength and confidence, and help children safely return to the activities they enjoy.
We believe physiotherapy should be engaging, supportive, and child-friendly. Sessions are adapted to each child’s personality and interests, incorporating movement-based activities, games, challenges, and functional exercises to keep children motivated while working towards meaningful goals.
Conditions We Support
Our paediatric MSK physiotherapy service supports children and young people with a variety of conditions and injuries, including:
- Muscle and tendon strains
- Ligament injuries and sprains
- Sports injuries and overuse conditions
- Joint pain and instability
- Postural and biomechanical concerns
- Hypermobility-related pain and fatigue
- Growth-related pain
- Hip conditions and lower limb pain
- Rehabilitation following fractures or orthopaedic surgery
We also regularly support children with common paediatric MSK conditions such as:
Sever's Disease
A common cause of heel pain in active children, particularly during growth spurts. It occurs due to irritation around the growth plate in the heel and is often associated with running and sports activities.
Osgood-Schlatter Disease
A common knee condition affecting growing children and adolescents, caused by irritation at the tendon attachment below the kneecap. It is frequently seen in sporty children during periods of rapid growth.
Hip Conditions
We support children with a range of hip-related conditions, including hip pain, altered walking patterns, reduced mobility, muscle weakness, and rehabilitation following orthopaedic intervention. Early physiotherapy can play an important role in improving movement, strength, and long-term joint health.
Post-Surgery Rehabilitation
We provide specialist rehabilitation following orthopaedic and musculoskeletal surgery, helping children safely regain movement, strength, confidence, and functional independence after procedures.
Post-operative physiotherapy may focus on:
- Pain and swelling management
- Restoring joint range of movement
- Rebuilding strength and endurance
- Improving balance and coordination
- Gait re-education and walking practice
- Gradual return to sport and activity
- Prevention of stiffness and secondary complications
We work closely with consultants, surgeons, schools, sports coaches, and families to ensure a safe and supported recovery process.
